Kilt wearing, seafaring, soul-baring Celts who happened to be born in South America, Banda Taverna began as a fun live act for the best St. Patrick’s Day festivals in Brazil. The longer they played, the more hooked they became, and they soon took up new instruments and began studying in Ireland, to become Brazil’s premiere Celtic band.
In 2019, they released their first album, LIBERTAS, a collection of original and traditional tunes. Their 2nd LP is in the works for 2023, to be produced by the prestigious Sonasterio label.
Taverna toured in the US and Canada before COVID sent everyone underground. They are returning for a nationwide Canadian tour in the summer of 2022.
Gustavo Fofao infuses their music with his fingerstyle guitar wizardry, while the beautiful Mariana Roque delivers both tenderness and arrows, equally powerfully, on vocals. Joao Seniuk is the only Uilliann piper within a 600 mile radius of their hometown, and the young Salobrena brothers, Romulo and Rafael, jam on violin and bodhran with a wink and a grin.
